2010 East Coast Team
This summer a team of 45 students and adults will travel to Uganda to serve in the communities of Kaihura, Koreng and Bukerere. Our teams split into groups and we will be on the ground for a month (June 13 – July 11) working side by side with our Ugandan friends.
Our team will carry and deliver thousands of pounds of health kits, crocs, books, educational supplies and tools. For the majority of the children it will be their first pair of shoes, first toothbrush, first book. Volunteer doctors traveling on our teams will hold health clinics and do first aid training in each community while our volunteers distribute distribute mosquito nets and blankets.
In addition, in Kaihura, we will host a leadership camp for the 200 students at Kaihura Parents Secondary School. We will also help finish a kitchen at Home Again Orphanage and host master training classes for the 80+ teenage orphans who live and go to school at Dorcas Vocational School.
In Bukerere, we will expand our partnership with Agape Children’s village. At the village there is an orphanage which is the home of 80+ orphans and a school where 300 students attend. We will help with landscaping the grounds to prevent erosion from ruining the facilities, work to repair existing facilities, and host workshops for teachers and students.
In Koreng we will work to serve the teachers and students of Kadacar Primary School whose school meets under a grove of mango trees. We will train teachers and host learning activities for the students at the school.
And last but not least we are blessed to have a volunteer professional photojournalist traveling with us. We will combine his work with that of other professional writers and artists who support Embrace Uganda to produce a charity CD, a documentary and a book which will be completed in the US. These tools will allow us to raise awareness and funds year round.
